Recent birds seen while hungover

As previously stated, birding for This Machine will be rather difficult over the next few months.  I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that I am undertaking a relatively time consuming endeavor right as migration is starting to pick up.  In an act of rebellion, I made a couple of spur of the moment outings this weekend, the first of which was in the vicious throes of a whiskey fueled hangover.  Regardless of the torments suffered by yours truly, some nice year birds were picked up, and some shitty photos of those birds were taken.

Grasshopper Sparrow - Pretty jazzed to see this bird.
Orange-crowned Warbler - sporting the seldom seen orange crown.
Red-headed Woodpecker - seen in Houston while dipping on the Greater Pewee...again.
Same bird, kindly implying that I should fuck off.
Pectoral Sandpiper - Hornsby is back open after the Great Compost Fire of 2013, and these birds were abundant.
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - doing the Gnatcatcher thing.
Louisiana Waterthrush - Nice reward for braving the elements while hungover.
Eastern Blackneck Garter Snake - The first snake to make it onto TMWB.  Fucking gorgeous.
Eared Grebe - getting all gussied up for breeding season.

Temporary Hiatus

Believe it or not, birding has not been at the forefront of my feeble little mind over the last month or so.  Between a non-birdy trip to Houston, my car basically falling apart and needing to be replaced, and me starting the process of selling my house, birds have been few and far between for this dude.  Migrants have started coming in over the last week or so, as evidenced by the three singing White-eyed Vireos I had yesterday and the Barn Swallows I saw on the drive home form work this afternoon, but it's been more and more difficult for me to get out and appreciate it.  I haven't even gone to see a Golden-cheeked yet.  What the fuck is wrong with me?  Anyways, because I feel like a dick for depriving the four of you who follow this blog from sharing in the adventures of the red-headed nerder, I'll throw a few pictures up.  More to follow soon, I hope.  No, fuck that noise.  More to follow soon, I know.

Barn Owl - my buddy AJ monitors these birds in the old airport control tower.  He was kind enough to take me up there.
As of last week, there were baby Barn Owls.  Super cool.
Hermit Thrush - In my opinion, an often under appreciated winter resident.  Maybe if it sang while it was here, people would give a shit.  Either way, gorgeous bird.
American Bittern - I turned up a pretty damn good bird (county bird for me), which was immediately overshadowed by some dude finding a Least Bittern in the county on the same day.
This Buff-bellied Hummingbird is still hanging around from December, despite a big compost fire on the property.
Bufflehead - one of my favorite ducks in flight.  Complete fucking stunner.
Gadwalls - I like this shot because it shows the chestnut coloration of the lesser secondary coverts on the male.  It's the little things, you know?
Barred Owl - It's another owl.  Don't people love that shit?
Brown Pelican
Winter Wren - the definition of "cute little bird"
